About Me
Hi! My name is Heather, and I am the founder of Heather's Online Tutoring. I am a high school English tutor based in Calgary, Alberta who offers online tutoring services to students Alberta wide. Whether you live in Edmonton, Lethbridge, Red Deer or beyond I am here to help!
I believe that the skills students build in Language Arts are essential to success in adult life. I am passionate about helping students find confidence in their comprehension and writing so that they can become strong communicators, thinkers and leaders inside and outside the classroom.
One of my specialties is helping Alberta ELA students with standardized tests, including ELA 30-1 Diplomas and Grade 9 PATs.
With over seven years of tutoring experience, I have developed effective strategies and resources that make English more approachable and less overwhelming for Alberta students.
I also hold a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature, which supports my approach to teaching strong, structured writing skills that translate into success in post-secondary studies.

Frequently Asked Questions
What format do you use for your English tutoring sessions?
All of my sessions are conducted using Google Meet: a free, user-friendly video platform.
What grades do you tutor?
I primarily tutor Alberta students who are in grades eight to twelve; this means I have a lot of experience with PAT preparation, Grade 10–12 ELA, and ELA 30-1 Diploma Exam preparation. I also support students who want to strengthen general writing, grammar, and reading comprehension skills.
Can you help with the ELA 30-1 Diploma Exam?
Yes. I specialize in ELA 30-1 Diploma Exam preparation, including essay writing, literary analysis, and Part A and Part B strategies. Most students think there is no way to study or prepare for Diplomas, but that is simply not true! In fact, I have created resources (like my essay handbook) that aim to break down diploma preparation into easy-to-follow steps. My goal is to make final exams as approachable as possible.
What makes your tutoring approach different?
I focus on building both skills and confidence. Instead of just correcting work, I teach students how to think like strong writers and readers. Every student who works with me also gets access to two of my most valuable resources: my Ultimate Essay Handbook and my ELA 30-1 Part B Handbook. These guides were created to help students feel confident, prepared, and fully supported, both during tutoring sessions and while studying independently at home.
Continuity, practice and support are the keys to academic growth, and I am proud to prioritize all of these aspects of learning in my tutoring services.
Do you help with writing essays and assignments?
Of course! I support students with essay writing, paragraph structure, thesis development, and editing strategies so they can improve both their school assignments and exam writing. Students who work with me get detailed feedback on up to two assignments per week!

Why Parents Choose Heather's Online Tutoring

Why should I get a tutor?
As class sizes grow, and grade requirements for post-secondary institutions continue to rise, having assistance outside the classroom is more important than ever. Tutoring mitigates the stress of assignments, allows students to reach (and exceed) their grade level, and ensures that they feel confident about writing in-class essays and exams. It also cultivates life-long skills including: self-expression, communication, and critical thinking. My approach to tutoring is not just about the grades - it's about helping students excel both inside and outside the classroom. Let's tackle English together!
